“Making Waves. Digital Feminism and Fourth Wave Connectivity”

Esta conferencia parte de la premisa de que la metáfora de la “ola” para describir el feminismo es muy útil a la hora de comprender el giro digital del activismo feminista contemporáneo. En particular, esta intervención analizará el movimiento del llamado feminismo del hashtag, en concreto el movimiento #MeToo, como punto de partida para entender como las diferentes “olas” del feminismo del pasado pueden servir como marco ontológico para el movimiento actual. La conectividad, la comunidad y la toma de conciencia serán examinadas como características imprescindibles para todo activismo, y se argumentará que, a pesar de sus detractores, la cuarta ola del feminismo tiene un potencial único para fomentar cambios materiales en la sociedad.

 

Biografia:

ANDREA RUTHVEN is Assistant Professor in English in the Modern Languages Department of the University of Cantabria and researcher at ADHUC–Research Center for Theory, Gender, Sexuality (Universitat de Barcelona). She holds a doctorate from the Universitat de Barcelona in Construction and Representation of Cultural Identities (2015). Her research focuses on gender studies and feminist theory, cultural and literary studies. She participates in the research projects "Bodies in Transit: Difference and Indifference" (FFI2017-84555-C2-2-P) and "Transnational Post-Westerns: The Global Impact of a Regional Myth" (13.JU21.64661). She has co-edited the volume Narratives of Difference in Globalized Cultures. Reading Transnational Cultural Commodities (Palgrave 2017) and published in the journal Feminist Review.
